CHAIRMAN Mr. Harry A. Tater Term Expires: 12/31/2022 Address: 312 Cedar Road Chesapeake VA 23322 Mr. Harry A. Murphy was elected to the School Board in May 1998. He was re-elected in May 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018. He was elected Vice Chairman in July 2008 and re-elected Vice Chairman in July 2009. In July 2010, he was elected Chairman of the School Board, re-elected Chairman in July 2011, and re-elected Chairman in January 2022. He retired from the U.South. Navy equally a Commander and is currently the possessor of A. Murphy Debate Visitor. Mr. Murphy has served on a number of service boards including the Board of Directors of the Governor'southward School for the Arts and the National Board of Directors of the War machine Kid Didactics Coalition. He is very active in his church, serving as a youth leader for vii years. He has coached over 35 youth sports teams. Mr. White potato received a B.South. caste from the U.S. Naval Academy and an M.Due south. in educational activity assistants from Erstwhile Rule University. He and his married woman, Karen, have three children that attended Chesapeake Public Schools and 4 grandchildren. |

VICE CHAIRMAN Mr. Thomas L. Mercer, Sr. Term Expires: 12/31/2024 Address: 312 Cedar Road Chesapeake VA 23322 Mr. Thomas L. Mercer, Sr. has been on the School Board since 1996. He was elected in May 1996 and re-elected in May 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. He served equally Vice Chairman from 2002 to 2004 and from Jan 2014 to June 30, 2014. He also served as Chairman from July 2004 to July 2008. Mr. Mercer is a lifelong resident of Chesapeake and currently serves every bit pastor of St. Paul'south United Methodist Church in Chesapeake. His previous pastorates were also in Chesapeake: Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church building and Hickory United Methodist Church. Among his civic and leadership roles are the following: a member of the Hickory Ruritan Lodge, past Vice Chairman and past board member of the Chesapeake Care Free Clinic, fellow member of the Board of Advisors of the Nifty Span Battleground and Waterways History Foundation, and a member of the Not bad Span Clergy Association. Mr. Mercer graduated from Indian River High School and received an A.B. degree from Atlantic Christian College and a chief of divinity from Knuckles University. Mr. Mercer and his wife, Susan, take four children who have graduated from Chesapeake Public Schools. They also have ii grandsons; 1 of whom attends Chesapeake Public Schools. |

MEMBER Mr. Samuel L. Boone, Jr. Term Expires: 12/31/2024 Address: 312 Cedar Road Chesapeake VA 23322 Mr. Samuel L. Boone, Jr. was elected to the Chesapeake Schoolhouse Board in May of 2012 and re-elected in 2016 and 2020. He is a Virginia Country Trooper and Recruiter with 20 years of experience. Mr. Boone is a 1995 graduate of Norfolk State University with a B.A. in political scientific discipline. He is a member of First Baptist Church, South Loma. Mr. Boone is a recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Courageous Leadership Award. He was a past member of the Chesapeake Youth Committee and a past board member of Volunteer Advocate for Chesapeake Youth. Mr. Boone is a board fellow member of the New Chesapeake Men for Progress, a member of the State Police Association, and also a member of the ECPI Criminal Justice Advisory Board. In Chesapeake, he has mentored numerous students at various schools. He and his wife, Zarmeta, reside in Deep Creek and have twin boys who attend Chesapeake Public Schools. |

Member Patricia Y. Male monarch, Doc Term Expires: 12/31/2022 Address: 312 Cedar Road Chesapeake VA 23322 Patricia Y. Male monarch, MD was elected to the Chesapeake School Board in May of 2018. Prior to attending medical school, she taught science and math in the Norfolk public schoolhouse system. She is a practicing doctor with xxx years of feel. Dr. Rex graduated from Howard University in 1982, Meharry Medical School in 1989, and Eastern Virginia Medical Schoolhouse (EVMS) in 1993. Currently she serves as a fellow member of the EVMS Board of Trustees and is a fellow member of the Hurrah Players Board of Directors. Dr. Male monarch is the 2014 recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award from Old Rule Academy, and received the Height Physician Honor in 2014, 2015, and 2018. She served as the president of The Friends of Hampton Roads, Inc. from 2013 through 2015, and she is currently the president of Hearts 4 Progress, which is a 501c3 customs service organization. In addition, she has participated on numerous committees with diverse organizations in the expanse including Norfolk Links, the American Medical Association, the Greater Norfolk Medical Society, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Dr. King is the proud parent of three adult children. |

Fellow member Mrs. Colleen C. Leary Term Expires: 12/31/2022 Address: 312 Cedar Road Chesapeake VA 23322 Mrs. Colleen C. Leary was elected to the School Board in May of 2014 and re-elected in 2018. She is a dedicated, retired educator of 34 years in Chesapeake schools. Her career in didactics began at the elementary level. She went on to be a reading resource teacher, an instructional specialist teaching constructive educational activity skills, a gifted educational activity coordinator, an assistant principal, and a main. Colleen is a lifelong resident of Chesapeake and a production of Chesapeake Public Schools from start form through graduation from Oscar Smith Loftier in 1972. She received her B.S. in elementary educational activity NK-7 from Sometime Dominion University, her Thousand.South. in reading education, and her Document of Avant-garde Study in educational administration and supervision from Old Dominion. She has also completed doctoral courses in educational administration from The George Washington University. Colleen has four children, all graduates of Chesapeake Schools, and five grandchildren. She is a member of River Oak Church where she serves in a variety of capacities and the Chesapeake PTA. |

Member Mrs. Christie New Craig Term Expires: 12/31/2022 Address: 312 Cedar Road Chesapeake VA 23322 Mrs. Christie New Craig was elected to the School Board in May of 2010 and re-elected in May 2014 and 2018. In July of 2012, Mrs. New Craig was elected Vice Chairman of the School Board and re-elected Vice Chairman in July of 2013. She assumed the position of Chairman in January of 2014 and was elected Chairman in July of 2014 and re-elected in July of 2015. She is a resident of Western Branch, a 1985 graduate of Western Co-operative Loftier School, and currently, Chief of Staff to Senator John A. Cosgrove. Mrs. Craig was a former deputy sheriff nether the leadership of Sheriff John R. Newhart for over 15 years and a 1995 graduate of the Chesapeake Police Academy. Mrs. Craig has been involved in her community for virtually of her life. She was a very active PTA fellow member, by recreational auspicious motorcoach, team mom, member of the Financial Commission for the Western Co-operative Varsity Baseball Team, participant in the Attorney Full general's Mentor Plan at Carver, and has volunteered for the Senior Services Seminar, Read Across America, and served as a career twenty-four hours speaker. She is a current member of the Congenial Order of Police Lodge #9 and in 2006 attended the Sorensen Political Leadership Program through the Academy of Virginia. She and her husband, Merrill, have three children that attended Chesapeake Public Schools and eight grandchildren. |
Fellow member Mrs. Angie Swygert Term Expires: 12/31/2024 Address: 312 Cedar Road Chesapeake VA 23322 Angie Swygert is the newest member of the Chesapeake Public Schools School Board. Elected to the vacancy on May 19, 2020, Angie brings more than 23 years of financial and campaign management feel to the board. Having received a B. Southward. in Business Administration from Former Dominion University in 1998, she has practical her management skills in both the fiscal and political arenas. She currently serves as the Vice President of Operations and Project Coordinator of the Congressional Prayer Caucus Foundation, a nonprofit headquartered in Chesapeake, VA. Angie was born and raised in Chesapeake, graduated from Chesapeake Public Schools, and is a lifelong fellow member of Deep Creek United Methodist Church. Married for 17 years to Chad, she is the mother of two children who are Chesapeake students. Angie'southward top priority is to provide every student with the opportunities and challenges to excel and has enthusiastically embraced the challenges and changes in today's evolving educational environment. The school division is pleased with the addition of Angie and is excited to gain a member with such a long and lasting connection to the city and schools of Chesapeake. |
MEMBER Mr. Louis J. Tayon, Jr. Term Expires: 12/31/2022 Address: 312 Cedar Road Chesapeake VA 23322 Louis Tayon was appointed to the School Board in January 2022. He previously was elected and served on the Chesapeake Public School Board from 2014 to 2018. Louis is a graduate of Oscar Smith Loftier School and has a principal's caste in Criminal Justice. He retired from the Chesapeake Police Section as Deputy Chief of Police and was the first Youth Services Officer at Indian River Loftier School and Junior High. Louis is actively involved in the community and serves on the boards of several civic organizations. Louis received the Valor Honour from the Virginia Clan of Chiefs of Constabulary, Chesapeake Police Officer of the Year, the Dr. W. Randolph Nichols Education Foundation Community Service Award and is a Lifetime PTA Member. Louis resides in the Grassfield surface area of Chesapeake with his wife Sharon, a retired Chesapeake school teacher. |
Fellow member Mr. Michael J. Woods Term Expires: 12/31/2022 Accost: 312 Cedar Road Chesapeake VA 23322 Mr. Michael J. Woods was elected to the Schoolhouse Board in May of 1998. He was re-elected in 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018. He was elected Vice Chairman in 2007. He is currently a trial chaser and president of the Police force Offices of Michael J. Woods, P.C. Mr. Woods has a police force enforcement groundwork with fourteen years of service with the Norfolk Police force Section. He has as well served on a number of committees and boards that include the Chesapeake Youth Commission, Chesapeake Criminal Justice Board, Chesapeake Care Free Clinic, the Governor's School Board of Directors, and the Hampton Roads Public Didactics Service Committee. Mr. Forest graduated from Deep Creek High Schoolhouse, received an associate degree from Tidewater Community College, a B.A. from St. Leo College, and a caste of Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law. He and his wife, Nancy, have iii children. |
